At 4:30 PM on Saturday, December 8, 2007, over a dozen decorated boats lined up to cruise around the shores of Lake Hernando. After leaving the dock at sundown, the boats were led by Jerry Grimes, whose boat was topped by a big red tree. They were greeted by the many residents with flashlight signals, bonfires, whistles, whoops and hollers, especially when Skeeter’s boat shot off fireworks!
Before leaving the beach, Santa and Mrs. Claus (Nick Delong and Deb Thompson) made an appearance to meet the children and pass out gifts.
The
participants and onlookers brought lots of unwrapped toys, including two
bicycles, for donation to the Citrus United Basket (CUB was represented by
Vickie Karr) for distribution to the less fortunate kids in
Boaters who were in the parade, included Skeeter & Diana Armstead (with granddaughter, Brittany), Ron, Cheryl & Christine Bailey, Dot & Bill Johns, Chopper & Kathy (with “fan” motor) Nick Delong & Deb Thompson, Jim & Patti Eldredge, Jerry Grimes & Heidi, Don & Eileen Heideman, David LaPerle, Edgar Meeks & Terri, Steve Meeks & Cheryl, Don Powell & Diane Sullivan, Joe & Maryann Springer, Travis & Sasha. After a two hour ride, the beautiful boats arrived at Armante’s Restaurant (known as “Skeeter’s” to the locals) for dinner and fun celebration for another year’s parade well done.
Also Thanks to the members who were not able to ride, but lent their support to coming out to watch! Everyone have a safe and healthy holiday season.
