Lake Cleanup

Lake Cleanup 2007

At 8:00 in the morning, on September 15, 2007, a group of conscientious boaters met at the Lake Hernando Boat Ramp to help clean up the lake and marsh areas.

Pickup continued until noon, when the volunteers returned to the ramp with their “finds”, including such unusual items as a newspaper stand, truck headlight and a metal cabinet.

Citrus County Airboat Alliance had a great turnout of members with 19 Airboats, 1 pontoon boat and over 40 members participating. They were joined by a boat from Too Far and 3 pontoon boats from the Arbor Lakes Property Owners Association.

The total trash filled three-fourths of a dump truck and weighed 1,040 lbs. Although there was quite a bit collected, the good news is there was less trash this year than last, so people seem to be getting the message to keep their water clean.

Arbor Lakes provided a terrific picnic lunch for all of the participants.

At 3:00 PM, Armante’s Restaurant (Skeeter's) opened early for the Citrus County Airboat Alliance to hold their monthly meeting out of the heat and sun.

All in all, it was a full and satisfying day.  Many thanks to all who participated.
